Hello future console modders!
In this short guide we will get you set up with the modkit, and give you the resources you need to learn and create!
The modkit is a custom version of Unreal Engine 4.27, so things will seem complicated at first if you are unfamiliar with that tool. Thankfully there are lots of resources out there to help you, Epic Games has tons of documentation on their website, and for Deadside specific things we have our Official Wiki and Youtube Guides. Modding for consoles is largely the same as modding for PC with some obvious exceptions like input and UI differences. The Official Wiki pages will still be useful to you even if they were originally written for PC. And if you have any questions feel free to reach out in the console modding channel in our official discord.
To begin you will need to install the modkit through the Epic Games Launcher that you can download here. Once you have the launcher, search for the Deadside console modkit in the store tab or click this link to install. Important note: PC and Console use two separate modkits, so install the correct one for the platform you intend to mod for. The Deadside modkit requires ~81GB of free space, however 100GB and an SSD is recommended for best performance.
One big difference between console and PC modding is that console uses mod.io instead of the Steam Workshop. Mods will be reviewed manually there, which unfortunately means it could take multiple days depending on when you upload them. It's important to write detailed mod descriptions and changelogs when uploading to make this process faster.

If you are a PC modder that would like to make your mods available to consoles, you will need to install the console modkit to port them over. The specific process will depend on what your mod does, some mods might not need much work to be functional on console.
For community server owners looking to add mods, you will need to use GGHost and use their online panel. Before adding any mods make sure to shut your server down. Directly in the panel you can search through the mod.io catalog, from there you can select mods and set a load order. Where you place mods in the load order is important, and can break things if done incorrectly. Mods placed first in the load order can have their content changed, overwritten, or broken by mods that are loaded after. Usually modders will give you an idea of where the mod needs to be placed in their mod description. After everything is ready, start up your server and hope it all doesn’t crash!
If you have any questions let us know, enjoy the modkit!
